Color Theory Workshop Supplies

Practical Color Theory in Oil Supplies

-Paint: Any brand except where noted.

  • Ivory Black
  • Ultramarine Blue
  • Burnt Umber
  • Burnt Sienna
  • Yellow Ochre
  • Cadmium Yellow Light (do not use Gamblin for this color)
  • Cadmium Red Medium
  • Alizarin Crimson
  • Titanium White

-Brushes: Bring any you prefer. You will need either a sable or soft synthetic for the exercises. Bristle brushes will be too stiff. I use Princeton Umbria 6200 series brushes for these exercises. I recommend having at least one of each of the following: #2, #4, #6, Flat Sable or Synthetic.

-2 palette knives. At least one will need to be diamond shaped and around ¾”x 2”, the other can be any shape. Here’s a good example http://www.dickblick.com/items/03117-1023/palette

-Drawing board (18×24) to attach painting surface

-Artist tape

-Palette. I recommend glass, at least 11”x14” but wood or palette paper is acceptable.

-Paper towels – 1 roll

-Odorless mineral spirits

-Linseed oil

-Brush cleaning container

-Masking or artists tape

-Instructor will provide surface to paint on (we will be painting on a polyester film).
